In the summer of 2013, Jessica, a 99%Media contributor, traveled at her own expense to Syria with a human rights observation team and documented the atrocities of war and its effects on the civilian population, especially children.

Jessica almost lost her life by a sniper bullet that narrowly missed her, she was also subjected to a prolonged interrogation and harassment by both the RCMP and CSIS upon returning to Canadian soil. “Une histoire syrienne” is a short documentary narrative that describes Jessica’s quest for social justice through her lens as a photojournalist who covered the 2012 Quebec Maple Spring protests upclose and how she sees that injustice compared to what she experienced in Syria.
